Dr. Hope Ferdowsian

Internist and specialist in nutrition

Hope Ferdowsian, MD, MPH, an internist, preventive medicine and public health specialist, and director of the Washington Center for Clinical Research, a subsidiary of the not-for-profit Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (www.pcrm.org).

Dr. Ferdowsian: Many of us wonder what steps we can take to make a difference in the world. Choosing to follow a vegan diet is a simple way to improve the condition of the environment, human health and the lives of other animals. The consumption of animal products has been conclusively linked to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis and many other diseases. On the other hand, eating a plant-based diet can reverse heart disease and diabetes, prevent several forms of cancer and prolong cancer survival.  --from Energy Times article, Omnivore vs. Vegan

Today's Guest Host and Producer is

Shushana Castle

After 2 decades working in the financial world of Wall Street and other global financial markets, Shushana departed her career to become an active and vocal participant in helping heal and improve our environment. She received a Masters of Science in Environmental Science and Water, sits on the board of the Clinton Climate Initiative and has been on numerous TV talk shows presenting simple solutions to resolve our planet's illnesses.  She structured a pipeline of financing for the United Nations Department of Water and also works with numerous nonprofits to provide clean, safe and accessible water to millions of people in developing countries who would otherwise have no access to water. She became a vegan 3 years ago after learning of the miserable suffering animals unwillfully endure their entire lives, to then get put on a plate and the epidemic of diseases caused directly from the consumption of animal tissue.

>> Last Chance to Speak Up AGAINST Factory Fish Prisons in our Gulf:
Final PUBLIC HEARING on Open Ocean AQUACULTURE

Texas will soon legalize factory farming of fish in the Gulf of Mexico. This is your LAST CHANCE to voice opposition to the creation of these horribly cruel, polluting and unnatural industry operations. A strong opposition movement last year caused regulators to postpone final action. However now approval seems likely without a strong public outcry. These overcrowded cages in the open ocean cause the animals to fight and struggle with each other in an immoral last ditch effort to squeeze more fish meat out of waters already exploited close to the point of collapse.  Though the regulating body, The Gulf Council, has "officially" closed public comment on this issue since October, advocates against fish factory farms must CONTINUE to be vocal in opposition as long as this cruel and contaminating industry remains a threat in our Gulf.

Voice your opposition, as a coastal resident now AGAINST Open Ocean Aquaculture by contacting the body handling public comment, The Gulf Coast Fisheries Council: FAX: (813) 348-1711 (Recommended), gulfcouncil@gulfcouncil.org, phone: toll-free (888) 833-1844

**Write to The GULF COUNCIL at 2203 N. Lois Avenue, Suite 1100 • Tampa, FL  33607 •
