Whose Skin Are You In? The Truth Behind the Animal Skins Trade
Every time you choose to buy a leather jacket or leather shoes, you sentence animals to a lifetime of suffering. Buying leather directly contributes to factory farms and slaughterhouses, since the skins of animals are the most economically important byproduct of the multibillion-dollar meat industry. The vast majority of animals slaughtered for their skins suffer all the horrors of factory farming--intense confinement, painful mutilations, deprivation, harmful hormone and antibiotic injections, and cruel treatment during transport and slaughter.

Ingrid Newkird
President and Co-Founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
Very simply put, Ingrid Newkirk is a revolutionary. She is one of true pioneers of the 20th (and now, 21st) century in the animal liberation movement. A description of her background and accomplishments that would even begin to do her justice would require reams, but suffice it to say that without Ingrid, the animal rights movement would not be the force it is today.
Ingrid has described her beginnings thus: "I
left UK for India when I
was 8 and lived there until I was 16. I grew up in New Delhi and went to boarding schools in Simla
and Kodaikanal. It was experiences there, like finding a dog abandoned in a
drainage ditch and seeing a bull being beaten to his knees, that made me
determined to start a group to protect animals."
